We’re heading to market tomorrow and it’s kind of a big deal. If you’re not familiar with the event, it’s one of the most exciting times of the year. We attend a huge showcase and bring back the latest and greatest finds to add to our showroom—and your homes.

The quality control team hard at work

Last year, like every other, was a riot. We saw poufs and area rugs made from recycled ties. Yes, like neckties. We thought, “really?”. There were viscose rugs in bold, eye-catching colors. They are so soft, it’s all you can do to resist rolling all over them, but they really are more for fashion than function. One of the biggest highlights though, was Lillian August’s sketchy burlesque room. It felt like you needed to strip down to your skivvies…almost.

We always look forward to seeing the good, the bad and the ugly at market, but we’re careful curators. We put everything through the filters of style, comfort and versatility. We think about where each piece could fit and whether or not it could harmonize with a variety of environments.

Lounging last year after a long day of looking.

In 2014, we came back with some amazing Vogue prints from the sixties and our new line from CR Laine. These wing-backed swivel chairs are as sharp as they are popular. Some clients shy away from them because they’re white but they sit wonderfully and the Sunbrella fabric is so easy to clean.

While we have no idea what to expect this year, we know to be on the lookout for interesting found objects. Those unique pieces always bring character. We’ve always had a well-edited selection of antiques, but many of the pieces currently in our showroom, though well made and beautiful, were acquired through large vendors. We love to put more one-of-a-kind pieces on our floor to bring even more personality and eclecticism to our collection.

It’s going to be a wild week and we’ll probably be ready for a drink by 3pm. It’s a lot to take in, but it always offers fresh perspective and inspiration to get our creative juices flowing. That’s one thing that sets us apart; we have four designers with different opinions and ideas. We all reconvene, refreshed, and work together to set a scene that appeals to different tastes.
